Women Who Do Yoga Stand Taller

Recent finding: Older women walked more quickly, had better balance and gained an average of one centimeter in height after a nine-week yoga program- because they stood more upright as a result of practicing yoga. Twice a week, for 90 minutes each time, the women did a series of basic poses developed especially for older people. After nine weeks, participants used longer strides when walking and could stand for a longer time on one leg. They also felt more confident in their ability to balance while standing or walking.
